My Body Deserves an Hour

Today's focus is on my walking journey.  I started walking 4-5 months ago.  I cannot remember the exact date I started.  It doesn't matter.  What matters is I started and continued.

Today's walk was especially unique.  I had 24 walking buddies, non-human walking buddies.  Ray Charles' "Oh, What A Beautiful Morning" was playing on Pandora.  I listed to funk while walking.  I was completing my first mile and rounding the track.  My new walking buddies appeared.

I started thinking about their journey.  Geese fly thousands of miles migrating to a warmer climate for the winter.  They spend hours upon hours to complete their journey.  They stop frequently  to refuel and rest.   They are in tip-top shape to make that journey.  This made me think about my walking journey.  The purpose of my journey is to get in shape, lose weight, develop muscle and change habits. Geese spend hours and miles on their journey.  Scientists have even clocked geese flying 1000 km in one day! My thoughts turned to "My Body Deserves an Hour".  An hour is not a long time.  We all have 24 hours each day.   One hour of walking to improve mind and body is not a huge chunk of time.  Geese spend the majority of their time migrating.  I can spend an hour 4 to 5 times a week on my journey.

I am over 50.  I decided many years ago that I would not be like the majority of my age group.   I made small decisions to meet that goal.  I stopped drinking sodas, eating friend foods and other small steps.  My main exercise has been walking for many years.  I backslid and quit walking for some time.  But I always circle back to walking.  I want to be outside!  I love nature, fresh air and open spaces.  Years of being in a silver tube caused my desire to be outside.  (I was a flight attendant for 23 years).

My challenge for you today is to ask yourself "Does my body deserve an hour?" I hope the answer is yes.  If it is, plan your journey!
